Let’s have a quick chat. Brooklyn Vegan debuted our first “single.” I hate that word, it’s just a song, but technically it’s a single because it’s been released and whatnot so what the hell. Check it out here:

He's a fair dude and he's going to put much time and passion into your record. Wait until you hear ours, Porches, Bethlehem Steels, and Sirs.

Yo Yo Y0!

So Hunter Davidson (producer extraordinaire, CEO of Underground River Corp.) has returned from New Paltz (the town I got arrested on tour in for publically going pee pee) putting the finishing touches on our new full length album BURN THE GERMS. Our friend Adam is currently mastering it over at the wonderful Cauliflower Audio Mastering. We should have a new tune as well as the album artwork (thanks to Jackson Whatever and Travista Martin) up next week (we’ll letcha know). The album is set to drop digitally on April 23rd. We are also proud to announce that we have joined the Solid PR family (Oxbow, Coalesce, Harvey Milk, Bouncing Souls, Planes Mistaken For Stars)! Thus far it’s been all good vibes from Derek and company, a family atmosphere for sure.

Upcoming shows = March 1st at Valentines in Albany w/ The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Barons in the Attic, and Oberhofer.

school daze

We’ve been shacked up writing songs for an upcoming full length thus our lack of activity lately. We played a show in Westchester a week or so ago but otherwise blah. I’m sure every band in the world says that they are “really excited about the new songs” and “they are the best thing we’ve ever written” so add us to the status quo because we are solipsismal in that way. You have to be after all. Why make music if you don’t think it’s worth listening to? One criticism that we’ve heard via some reviews, and via that random dude who thinks we are interested in his opinion, is that we are musical hoarders not willing to leave behind a single influence. Guilty as charged. At the same time we understand the value in disciplining ourselves and so I think most will find this thing refreshingly cohesive. To be frank, we’ve stripped Summer People of some of the bells and whistles and opted for something raw. ANYWAY………..

The drought will soon be over ladies and gents. We have a nice busy fall in store so let’s take a look at what lies ahead:

SHOWS= November 1st thru 3rd with Goldmines in Fredonia (BJs), Buffalo (TBA), and Rochester (The Bug Jar duh!). NOveMbeR 16th in Ithaca with 100% Black (some rad Film Festival*). November 17th in Binghamton with Cattle Drums, Underground River, and 100% Black. That show will be at Atomic Toms. December 5-8th will be a mini tour with Porches ending at Bubba’s mighty BIG DAY IN with some pretty spectacular bands TBA.

On the December tour we will be selling/giving away our latest split album with Porches. Two songs each for real cheap. Consider it an incentive to be stoked for our full length.

We will be filming a music video (that’s what the kids call em these days) at the end of September. The concept is hilarious therefore the video should make us look like complete Neanderthals. The amazing Heather Craig will be shooting it.

That should suffice for now right?

weekly update: boring edition

I’m still recovering from last weekend. The Bug Jar is almost always deceptively tranquil right up until the first band plays. I almost always wonder “is this one going to tank?” right before I realize that the mighty Tim Avery never fails us. Thanks to him and thanks also to Bubba “the birthday boy” for letting us kick it with him at The Haunt. It was nice n full for a Sunday night. If you are living near the Philadelphia area or actually from Westchester should come out and have a good time.

The show in Brooklyn last weekend was fantastic. Big thanks to the kind dudes at Suburbia for hooking that up. Have you seen this place? It’s among the nicer (meaning fancier and cleaner) DIY spaces in the Northeast. Porches killed it per usual as did Mouth to Mouth to Mouth and Living Room. Next up we have The Bug Jar with Joywave and then The Haunt with Bulletproof Tiger, Mouth to Mouth to Mouth (Bubba’s birthday!) and some others. We’ll do a special post about that next week. For now we want to direct your attention to our new Twitter page. I’m not going to lie, I cringed writing that fucking sentence but what can you do? home sweet home

Sorry about the lack of updates. It’s hard to get a computer for more than twenty minutes at a time when you are on tour. Speaking of tour, we are home and already missing the van. It was so great to be out with our good friends in Aficionado. They are currently recording a full length record in Omaha, that will be out on No Sleep Records at some point. It was also nice to meet Twin Killers, Zlam Dunk, Two Cow Garage, Film Strip, and HotChaCha. I could talk about tour but I think I’ll try and do a picture show instead.





































We will be back on tour in May and June. Keep an eye out for those dates. Go buy Teamwork on Itunes, Bandcamp, or wherever else we are selling that nonsense.

Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that we are approaching the final stages of mixing and mastering. This means that we will have music for you within the next four days probably. As you may know we are going to have a weekend of Upstate release shows (25th Binghamton, 26th Syracuse, and 27th Ithaca) before we head down to Austin to play South by Southwest. I'm hoping to keep a tour journal during that time so keep an eye out for that.

We will be working on a music video once we return home. Honestly we are trying to decide which song to do. We will be working with our friend Ashley Connor, she did the video for Broken Bones. We are trying to come up with a concept, preferably funny and insane. Check out what we did last time we worked with her:

Our friends over at Life on an Island are going to be releasing this record on cassette. The cover was designed by my best bud Alex Gentile. He put two of my favorite films on the cover (Hawks' Rio Bravo and Ozu's Late Spring). I'm stoked about that.

We are planning on getting home and immediately going on tour again. The plan is to return and almost immediately tour up North. If you guys know any cool houses or promoters send em our way.

On this tour we will be joined by Jesse Lafian. He will be playing the drums for us and we are really lucky to have him. He plays drums in two of my favorite bands; Crime Pays and Rival Tribes. Check those bands out on bandcamp. Steve is going to be a scientist while we are gone. We are going to miss him.

- I vowed to never eat at Taco Bell ever again.
- listened to our preproduction tracks with Frank (below)

- went to a friend’s birthday party and raided the open bar.
- despite a late start (late night) we tracked live instruments for two songs on our first official day.
- went out again to a dance party in a practice space. Got down to !!!’s “Pardon my Freedom.”
- got up late again and headed over to the studio where we tracked three more righteous tunes.
- got to Eli’s and laid down a punk song. Took off our shirts to get in the mood. Room smelled bad.
- followed the punk song with a slow heavy song. Put our shirts back on. Room started to smell better.
- followed that with another brand new song. It came out a lot better than any of us expected.
- played a crazy game of “would you rather.” Pete is really good at coming up with ridiculous questions.
- punished ourselves and stayed in. Watched 3 episodes of The Wire season 3.
- woke up early and got three tattoos from my good friend Paul. Christmas money!
- got to the studio early. Graham was playing the cello.
- much to our delight we churned out two more hits before heading to Albany for a New Year’s Eve show.
- crammed into our best friend Tim’s Jeep. Every time we hit a bump we feared for our lives.
- arrived in Albany and immediately loaded into Valentines.
- played a killer show. Called Tara and kissed her thru the phone Soulja Boy style.
- Pete and I wished random people a happy new year.
- went to a party with our friends from Aficionado, Emmett, Emma, Paul, the aforementioned Tim, Eric and Katie
- had an epic snowball fight in the street that ended with a knife being pulled on me (no joke).
- ate some teeth.
- studied hard for the midterms.
- got up and headed back to Syracuse to make a to do list for our record. Pete donned a fake stash.
- got to bed nice and early.
- played another game of “would you rather.”
- started Howard Zinn’s War and Terrorism as well as Arthur C Clark’s Rendezvous with Rama. Hope I finish both.
- Pete and Graham finished up with some overdubs.
- went out to eat and watched “Most Shocking High Speed Chases.”
- bid farewell to Wheatstraw and Clarence.
- did some vocals and then headed down to a bar to meet some friends.
- got to see my friend Goose.
- bar refused to play my jukebox selection “I Can’t Wait” by ODB.

- had always gotten a noir vibe from Jade. Realized that she also loves Gene Tierney.

here we go again

I know we tried this before but we lost the password and everything went downhill from there. It’s easier to post random nonsense when you have a blog but don’t let that stop you from visiting our website: www.summerppl.com. We will still be using that as well as Facebook to get the word out. Forget myspace.

We just got back from CMJ and are busy writing material for our next full length. CMJ was a hazy blast. We got to chill with old friends (Travis, Dan, Jay, Gaby, Venus, Matt Claire, etc) and play with some incredible bands (The Measure, The New Dress). Steve hit a cop with the van, Pete threw a chair down a staircase at Alex, Graham got lost at the Museum of Modern Art, Jade went shopping, Alex did karaoke, and Justin slept under a table without blankets or a pillow. Our old pal Tim Hunt came along for the adventure.

At our Knitting Factory show Matt Redleader informed us that we have just received our first test pressing for GOOD PROBLEMS, the 12 inch should be in our hands by November. We are planning on playing a few shows to celebrate in November and December. You should join us? We always have a good time. None of us have ever had the honor of releasing something on vinyl, I hear it’s pretty hip. Maybe we'll start getting haircuts.
